In Mauritius, the tax office is running a lottery.  That’s no joke. There are no lottery tickets.

Instead, you submit purchase VAT invoices or receipts purchases online.

The lucky winner gets 50,000 Mauritian rupees (about USD $1450).

Why do this?

It’s to encourage people to ask shops and VAT registered businesses for receipts.  By doing that, the Mauritian tax office can cross-check these receipts with amounts declared in VAT returns.

And so, you reduce the incidence of undeclared VAT and actually bolster the VAT in the coffers.

Talk about genius idea, eh, Mr Balls?

1. Inscrivez-vous à un site de travailleurs indépendants (freelance) 

Devenez un travailleur autonome. Par exemple, vous pouvez souscrire à ces sites pour les travailleurs indépendants:

J’ai vu des projets tels que: 

- Préparer les comptes internes d’une entreprise

- Elaborer un plan de développement

- Faire un revue analytique d’une entreprise

- Répondre aux appels d'offres (bids) 

Vous travaillez et vous gagnez.  Vous gagnez de l’expérience avec des clients internationaux.

2.  Partagez votre expertise

Alors vous avez déjà une connaissance de base dans les finances. Partagez-la maintenant! Répondez aux questions dans les forums comme:

Ne passez pas trop de temps sur une question.  10-15 minutes suffisent. Ces forums peuvent vous rendre accro!

Si vous n’avez pas la bonne réponse, ne vous inquiétez pas.

Les autres membres du forum vont vérifier si votre réponse est correcte . Sinon, ils vous donneront la bonne réponse.  C’est le meilleur moyen d'apprendre.

Après un certain temps, vous attirez l’attention des autres utilisateurs.  Vous deviendrez un expert. 

C’est là, lorsque vous les envoyez un message privé.  Vous les demandez de manière générale: 

- qu’est-ce qu’ils étudient 

- sur quel projet ou quelle mission ils travaillent actuellement 

- comment vous pouvez leur aider 

Vous pouvez demander plus tard, s’ils connaissents des opportunités pour travailler. 

3. Commencez un blog

Si vous commencez un blog, vous partagez vos expériences et mettez en avant votre expertise.

Ecrivez encore sur les sujets d’actualités tels que:

- L’économie

- Modifications dans la comptabilité ou dans la fiscalité

- Comment ces changements peuvent avoir un effet sur les gens ordinaires et le commerce au quotidien.

Si vous avez des fautes dans votre blog, vous pouvez toujours le réviser et enlever la gaffe.  Exprimez votre opinion, même si c’est controversé.  Si quelqu’un fait un commentaire sur votre blog, devéloppez la conversation.

Rappelez également de partager votre blog sur les médias sociaux: LinkedIn, Viadeo, Twitter, Google, Facebook. Envoyez par e-mail les articles à vos contacts.

4. Devenez membre d'un conseil d'administration d'une organisation à but non lucratif.

Les charités et les organisations sans but lucratif appécieront votre expertise en commerce et finances. Travaillez pour un organisme qui vous tient profondément au coeur. 

Je l’ai fait quand j’ai été trésorier d'une association régionale de l'égalité et de diversité

J’ai appris comment:

- un organisme fonctionnait avec un manque de ressources 

- élaborer des appels d’offres et des demandes de financement 

- donner conseils sur les controles internes, la solvabilité, les investissements, les prévisions, le budget et la trésorerie mensuelle. 

- travailler avec les gens de divers milieux. 

Cela durait quelques heures par semaine et j’ai assisté à une réunion une fois par mois. Je sais que l’expérence tant qu’administrateur m’a beaucoup aidé lorsque j’ai prospecté pour emploi l’année dernière.

5. Libérez votre personalité lumineuse 

Surtout, vendez VOTRE MARQUE!

Vous allez travailler avec les personnes dans votre employeur ou vos clients potentiels.

Ces derniers voudaient relationner avec vous.  Dans l’entretien d’embauche ou dans votre argument de vente, les meilleures histoires viennent des expériences personnelles.  

Dites quelque chose qui est propre à vous. Peut être vous êtes batteur dans un groupe de rock, professeur de salsa ou premier snowboarder.  Vous avez éventuellement un intérêt insolite: l’échasse urbaine ou le monocycle en montagne.

Racontez d’un fait inédit de vous. Par exemple, il était une fois, vous figuriez dans la publicité de la vache qui rit!

Cela vous fait inspirer la confiance et vous démarquez de la foule!

QU’ATTENDEZ-VOUS?

Votre futur employeur a deux candidats. Ils ont les mêmes qualifications.  Un candidat a tout simplement listé son parcours professionnel.  Vous avez donc ajouté ces points lumineux.

If there's 1 reason to leave the EU, it's this...

I love Britain. I love Europe too. 

I'm a Europhile through and through.

Probably more so than most people who are voting to remain. OK, that’s just my opinion!

I speak many European languages. I'm a frequent European traveller. I have friends in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Greece and the list goes on. 

So let me talk to you about the Brexit debate.  

The question is simple: 

Should the United Kingdom - remain a member of the European Union or - leave the European Union?

In the EU? Outside the EU?  What'll it be?  

We're getting too much information. I'm a details guy.  But on this occasion, I'm leaving out the details and focussing on the issues.

Here are my thoughts:

On the economy

Both sides are quoting figures. On the Remain side, you have established and reputable organizations telling us about the negative consequences a Brexit could have on the British economy.  Some forecasts are verging on doomsday.  

On the Leave side, you don’t have many economic studies or fancy reports.  They say that on the economy, we’ll do something between slightly worse to slightly better.  

They are not making pie-in-the-sky predictions.

The truth is probably somewhere in between.  Fact is, no one knows how the economy will look either in or out of the EU. 

Personally, I estimate the "shock" will be no worse than a comparable period of short term uncertainty. Think back to when the coalition government formed in 2010. 

OK, the financial situation wasn't great.   However, once over the initial shock, financial markets will bounce back.

On trade

The EU doesn't do trade deals quickly. It’s taken years and the EU still hasn't done a trade deal with India, China or the US.  

Would it take years?  

Well, the advantage we have is that we already have a trade deal with the EU. We're part of the Single Market. No EU country who buys from us would want to be left worse off.   

So why would they make it difficult for us when we could make it difficult for them? 

On immigration 

I think EU immigration has been positive for Britain over past 10-12 years. I have made many friends in the UK from France, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Poland and from all over Europe.  I have enjoyed practising my European languages. 

On balance, people from the EU put more into the British economy than they take out.

Remember, we are growing older. We need a working population to fund our future pensions.   Also note that it’s a two-way street. We Brits are free to live and work in the EU too. And how! 

Meanwhile, I am all too aware that people here are concerned about the increasing population. 

And that:

- we need controlled immigration. 
- a few have not integrated into British society. 
- an increased population affects public services, housing and drives down pay.   

On democracy

For me, democracy is the only issue that seals the deal.  My simple question to the EU Commission :

Who elected you? 

Not just that.  EU institutions are distant from all of its EU citizens. Just think of how the EU tossed aside democracy when they dealt with the Eurozone crisis, especially Greece and Cyprus. 

Indeed, imagine if the EU were a single European nation state - and many argue that's already happening.   If this "European nation" wanted to join the EU as a new member, it couldn't. As it would fail on its own test of democracy!

Conclusion:

I'm pro-Europe, pro-Brexit. I suspect that there are more of us than you think. 

I’m voting to leave.  But that may not be the choice for you. 

Read up. Get confused. See through the fog.  Decide. And most importantly:

GET OUT AND VOTE LEAVE ON JUNE 23!
