England vs Italy - the one week long love song

Today, I made an amusing linguistic connection between an English and Italian song. And the song styles could not be more different.

In England, we have a famous British R&B / hippity hop artist called Craig David. He was very prominent in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

His song, "7 days" reached number 1 in the summer of 2000.

And also the lyrics of the first verse...:

Now let's rewind to 1964. A young fresh faced regazzo called Bruno Filippini was setting girls' hearts racing. His famous hit "Sabato sera" (Saturday night) was arguably one of his most successful songs.

I first heard of this song in our high school Italian lesson. I mean, a song must be great if you can find it in an Italian textbook, right?  Similar to how you can find Beatles songs in English textbooks.

Debatable comparisons of "greatness" aside, here is the music video:

And a quick Google translation of the lyrics gives :

You can find the full lyrics here in Italian.

Interestingly enough, the Italian guy gets the girl by Saturday. Whereas the English chap gets the girl by Tuesday or Wednesday.

You would have thought the Italian would have been more direct and quicker off the mark... then again, I suppose there was such a thing as chivalry in those days...
